With the end of school comes the end of the school lunch program. For many children this means they lose access to regular, healthy meals.

This year, Basin Electric will be collecting food items to help provide nutritious meals to local children. Food items can be placed at our collection sites at the Headquarters building in the cafeteria and the large break room in the J-L building beginning Monday, June 17 and will continue until June 21, 2013. Suggested donations should be single-serving, nonperishable items that can be easily prepared: canned soups, granola bars, juices, etc. Monetary donations will also be accepted, please make checks payable to United Way.  Designated boxes will be located at the sites to drop off your monetary donations.

United Way estimates a nutritious meal can be provided for $4.25

Location: Papa's Pumpkin Patch

Volunteers needed for Day of Caring for Wednesday, August 14, 2013.

Day of Caring was established to promote the spirit and value of volunteerism, increase the awareness of local human service agencies and demonstrate how people working together for the good of the community can accomplish great things.

This year's project will be at Papa's Pumpkin Patch (30 Volunteers).

About: Papa’s Pumpkin Patch’s focus has always been on families, education, and fun. Since 1983, with the help of generous volunteers, Papa’s has given over $325,000 to local charities.

Project: Volunteers will be painting and staining wooden play structures and buildings, repairing wagons, pressure washing and helping to transform a farm into a festive pumpkin patch.

Skills: We are looking for creative, artistic individuals as well as mechanical. An experienced welder would be a big help.

The 2013 Apple Dash Run/Walk 4 Education will be held Sunday, September 8.

Sanctioned by the Bismarck Public Schools Foundation, Apple Dash, is a Family-Fitness-Fun event that raises money for teacher mini-grants and needy students.

Races consist of a ½ mile and 1 mile obstacle course for children and a 5k run/walk for adults and children.
