A local power company made good use of casual Friday. Every Friday, Basin Electric employees are able to pay a nominal fee and wear jeans to work, with the proceeds going to area charities.
Last week, Basin Electric's CEO said the company would match every dollar raised, and all the proceeds would go to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief effort. Overall, the company and employees raised more than $15,000.
"We were very pleased but I can't say we were surprised either," said Mary Klecker-Green, Basin Electric Power Cooperative supervisor of public and member communications. "Our employees have traditionally stepped up. They stepped up last spring during the flooding, and during Katrina, we organized and effort as well."
Other North Dakota cooperatives also gave money to the Red Cross. Basin Electric presented a check to the charity this morning.
