College students throughout the co-op’s membership can apply for scholarships.

Basin Electric will once again be awarding scholarships to college students throughout the cooperative’s membership.
According to Vickie Volk, Basin Electric human resources assistant, 181, $1,000-scholarships will be awarded. She said 25 scholarships will go to children of Basin Electric or its subsidiary employees. Five of those 25 scholarships will be designated for qualified applicants who plan to attend a certified vocational or technical school, and two of the 25 will be designated for qualified applicants who plan to achieve an engineering degree.
Twenty of the 181 $1,000-scholarships will go to children of member cooperative employees; and 136 will go to children of member cooperative consumers. The scholarships are for the 2010-2011 school year.
Now in its 20th year, the scholarship program recognizes and encourages academic and community achievements of students in the region. It is also considered an investment in the economic future of rural areas.
Scholarship America will complete the processing of applications and selection of scholarship recipients for Basin Electric and Dakota Gasfication Company. Basin Electric will continue to process the member cooperative and consumer applications.
