Basin Electric’s 2009 St. Baldrick’s Day event raised $124,000 and more than 200 volunteers lost their hair for children’s cancer research. It was such a success that Basin Electric was recognized Feb. 24 with an honorable mention by PR News for its philanthropy communications. Basin Electric was among global businesses like eBay, Aflac and Hasbro. It was all part of PR News’ Corporate Social Responsibility Awards.
The philanthropy communications category recognizes an organization with a successful giving program in which the communications of these efforts has improved the standing of the organization in the communities it serves. This year’s top prize in that category went to Aflac. Past winners include Hard Rock International, Bank of America and Deloitte & Touche.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is one of the key benchmarks of an organization’s overall success and reputation. PR News’ CSR Awards recognize both the communications surrounding a CSR initiative and the initiative itself.
St. Baldrick’s is the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. Thousands of volunteers shave their heads in solidarity of children with cancer, while requesting donations of support from friends and family. In the two years Basin Electric has held a St. Baldrick’s event, it has shaved more than 300 heads and raised more than $215,000.
Basin Electric’s 2010 event is well under way. It will be held at 1:30 p.m. March 17 at Basin Electric’s boardrooms. See the invitation attached to the newsletter.
