An avid writer, Garrison Keillor has contributed to newspapers and magazines across the country. Keillor is the author of The Writer’s Almanac and more than a dozen books including “Lake Wobegon Days” and “Homegrown Democrat.” His radio program, “Prairie Home Companion,” has been broadcast across the country for more than three decades.
And on Oct. 31, Keillor will be broadcasting the radio program from Bismarck (ND) Civic Center thanks, in part, to a sponsorship by Basin Electric.
Americans of every background and belief have tuned in to the “Prairie Home Companion” to hear news and views from the little town where “all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average.” Keillor’s insightful reflections, progressive views on social and political issues, and humor have made the broadcast a hit since it began in 1974.
The live Saturday night broadcasts feature music, comedy sketches and Keillor’s signature monologue, “The News from Lake Wobegon.”
According to its Web site, “Prairie Home Companion” is heard by “more than 4 million listeners each week on some 590 public radio stations, and abroad on America One and the Armed Forces Networks in Europe and the Far East.” The show has been broadcasted from Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, Iceland and almost every state in the country.
Following the Bismarck show, a Halloween dance and costume party for all ages will take place with live music by The Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at (800) 745-3000, or in person at the Bismarck Civic Center Ticket Office and at all TicketMaster locations.
