Harper places Basin Electric-wide freeze on hiring.
Dakota Gasification Company - November 19, 2009
Basin Electric CEO and General Manager Ron Harper sent a staffing directive to senior vice presidents, managers and supervisors Oct. 23.
“In order to recognize the future challenges of our industry and our need to manage the dynamics of our changing workforce, effective immediately, I am placing a Basin Electric-wide (including all subsidiaries) freeze on hiring.” Harper said the only exception to the freeze will be for staffing the following new facilities: Dry Fork Station, Culbertson Generation Station, Deer Creek Station, Leland Olds Station scrubber project, Montana Limestone’s truck dump and unit train load-out facility, and the PrairieWinds projects in North Dakota and South Dakota.
Harper asked that each supervisor, manager and senior vice president evaluate combining or realignment of responsibilities of present staff, the cost effectiveness of outside consultants, and review overtime hours of current staff when an existing position opens up as a result of a resignation or retirement.
He said to ensure wise hiring practices he will only consider future position justifications after he is certain that a thorough assessment of the hiring need has been completed.
