This year's Annual Meeting will include a preconference session on health care and employee benefits and will feature John Doggett as the key note speaker.

Basin Electric will be hosting a preconference session on health care and employee benefits prior to the start of the cooperative’s 2009 Annual Meeting Nov. 4. The annual meeting will get under way that afternoon with featured speaker John Doggett, senior lecturer at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
The preconference, “Skyrocketing Health Care and Pension Costs: What they mean for cooperatives,” will begin at 9 a.m. and has three parts. The first will focus on health care, followed by a presentation by Sharon Klein, Basin Electric manager of Human Resources, on how employee benefits are changing. The third part will be a discussion on employee incentives and benefits.
The health care panel will include Dennis Hill, executive vice president and general manager, North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives; Linda Otterson, manager of Human Resources, Cass County Electric Cooperative; and a representative from U.S. Sen. Kent Conrad’s office. The discussion on employee incentives and benefits will feature Paul Sukut, Basin Electric senior vice president and deputy general manager; and Mary Jo Arthur, senior principal retirement plan consultant with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
The annual meeting will begin at 12:50 p.m. Nov. 4. Following reports by Basin Electric President Wayne Child and General Manager Ron Harper, Doggett will present “Don’t Blink: The emergence of new global markets and what it means to you.” His research and teaching interests include global competition, entrepreneurship, sustainability and energy with a focus on China and India. Doggett has extensive experience consulting in Asia, Europe and the U.S. with companies of all sizes, including Fortune 500 firms.
