The first wind turbine tower of the PrairieWinds 1 project south of Minot, ND, went up Oct. 1.

The PrairieWinds 1 wind project will, at 115.5 megawatts, be the largest wind project owned and operated by a cooperative in the United States.

Power from the facility will be supplied to Basin Electric’s customers through an interconnection with Western Area Power Administration’s transmission system.
