Board reorganizations take place at December meeting

The officers are nominated and elected for one-year terms by the directors.

The directors of Basin Electric and its subsidiaries elected board officers at their reorganization meetings held in December. The officers are nominated and elected for one-year terms by the directors.

For Basin Electric, Roy Ireland, Martin, SD, was re-elected president for a second term. He’s been a Basin Electric director since 1996, representing Rushmore Electric Power Cooperative, Rapid City, SD.

Wayne Peltier, Cottonwood, MN, was re-elected vice president, also for a second term. He’s been a director since 2008 and represents the cooperative members of District 9.

Kermit Pearson, Lake City, SD, was re-elected secretary-treasurer for a 12th term. He represents East River Electric Power Cooperative, Madison, SD, and has been a Basin Electric director since 1997.

Gary Drost, Luverne, MN, was re-elected assistant secretary. He’s been a Basin Electric director since 1999 and represents L&O Power Cooperative in Rock Rapids, IA.

For Dakota Coal Company, Reuben Ritthaler, was re-elected chairman of this subsidiary. He lives in Upton, WY, and represents Powder River Energy Corporation on the Basin Electric board.

Roberta Rohrer, was elected vice-chairman; Rohrer is from Conrad, MT, and represents Central Montana Electric Power Cooperative on the Basin Electric board.

Charlie Gilbert was elected treasurer of Dakota Coal. He is from Iowa Falls, IA, and represents Corn Belt Power Cooperative on the Basin Electric board. The officers and directors for Dakota Coal are the same for Montana Limestone Company, a subsidiary of Dakota Coal.

Allen Thiessen was named as a director for Dakota Coal Company, Montana Limestone Company, PrairieWinds ND 1 and PrairieWinds SD 1, all Basin Electric subsidiaries. Thiessen’s home cooperative is Lower Yellowstone REA, headquartered in Sidney, MT. He’s been a director there for 26 years and is currently serving as president. Thiessen has been a director for Upper Missouri for 12 years.

For Dakota Gasification Company, Don Applegate was re-elected chairman. Applegate is from Oakland, IA, and represents Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative in LeMars. He’s been a Basin Electric director since 1997. Gary Drost was elected vice-chairman; and Wayne Child was elected treasurer. Child is from Cheyenne, WY, and represents Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Denver, CO. He’s been a Basin Electric director since 1985. 

Tom Owens, was re-elected to a three-year term on the Dakota Gas board.
